"Kim makes me want to dance!"

I have been studying with Kim for close to two years now and absolutely LOVE her enthusiasm. Not only does she love teaching but also encourages students to learn a wide variety of styles. She makes a point of going through a thorough warm-up and cool down (very important). I appreciate how she's willing to slow down a move or sequence so that you understand it. Kim makes me feel empowered, sensual, and beautiful all within 90 minutes!

"Variety is one of the spices of Kim!"

I've known Kim for quite a long time now, and she never ceases to surprise me with her creative teaching style. She recently changed up her beginner course, and now the newbies pick up zills (finger cymbals) AND veil work in the beginning classes! She recently test-drove that curriculum for her second level students, and I found it challenging and fun! Kim does a great job of including everyone, and encouraging people to think beyond their self-imposed limitations. She is a cheerleader without sounding corny - she has done a lot for my own confidence level. Her studio space in downtown Kalamazoo is ideally located, and set up very well for dance.

"Kim really knows her stuff!"

She pulled me into her engaging circle the first time I observed her bellydance demo. I've been taking classes from her ever since and continue to learn more in every class. Kim strives to continue keeping her classes fresh and fun, in addition to making sure we get a good workout. Her guidance for movement is clear and typically enhanced with history and folkore. She also creates opportunities for additional instruction, experience and fun outside of the classes, for those who are interested.

"Wonderful Teacher"

Kim Patrie is not only a beautiful dancer; she is also a fantastic teacher. Bellydance looks much easier than it actually is, and therefore requires a teacher who can demonstrate and explain intricate moves to a class of beginners. When necessary, Kim gives all her students individual attention, but she doesn't often have to, because she is so thorough and patient from the start. She makes sure that all her students feel comfortable, and that all are "getting it". Throughout the year, Kim organizes Haflas, which are festive get-togethers with lots of music and dancing. Her students have the opportunity to perform at Haflas, and she invites dancers with more experience and various styles, to present a range of Bellydance. Its a fun and instructive evening, much like learning from Kim.

"Awesome MiddleEastern Dance Instructor!!!"

Kim Patrie is the best!! I took the class to learn the dance and also because I heard it was a great way to lose weight. Kim is so patient and helpful. She never makes you feel awkward or out of place if you are overweight. If you have questions she takes the time to listen and help. She shows you different examples of how to learn a move because different people learn differrent ways. She really cares. It has been a wonderful experience so far and I cannot wait to keep going and see what new moves we will learn each week. Right now I am in my second round of Level 1 classes and I thought I would be bored, but even that she does differently and it is still so much fun.

Kim is a brilliant teacher, with a great sense of humor, I never feel uncomfortable asking questions, etc, and she exudes enthusiasm and charisma!

"I'm Glad I Did"

Kim is an excellent teacher and has a good work ethic. As you improve she provides more and more verbal and modeling cues but understands just learned techniques aren't going to be perfect. She was even able to provide me with alternative movements appropriate to my body, thus managing to provide individual instruction within the class setting. Her style is beautiful and if you want to be so, then take her class. Although I was overjoyed to take her beginning classes, I wanted my style to "harder" not pretty. She gave me that foundation.
